About the Role
The Clinical Development Lead (CDL) – Oncology is the enterprise clinical strategy leader, ensuring: 🔹 Content clarity across the asset lifecycle 🔹 Alignment of clinical strategy, scientific narrative, and decision frameworks 🔹 Center-stage positioning for Clinical Development in product strategy, governance, and investment decisions
This role sits at the core of the Medicine Development Team (MDT) quad, serving as: ✔ The clinical authority & leader for the asset’s strategy ✔ A strategic partner to the Medicine Development Leader (MDL) ✔ The face of Clinical Development for internal & external stakeholders
You will own the clinical roadmap while directing operational execution guided by Senior Scientists within your programme.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Strategy & Governance
- Define and own the clinical strategy, scientific narrative, integrated benefit-risk framework, and decision-making for the asset across its lifecycle.
- Accountable for aligning strategic outcomes with study-level delivery, ensuring ASAP progression.
- Serve as the representative for Clinical Development in portfolio-level governance & investment presentations, translating evidence-based insights into actionable strategic recommendations.

Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as Clinical Development’s primary ambassador to Health Authorities (e.g., FDA, EMA), advisory boards, steering committees, IDMCs, and alliance partners.
- Lead new product positioning while engaging externally and internally to integrate evidence into decision frameworks.
Innovation-Driven Decision-Making
- Leverage AI, advanced analytics, and emerging data platforms to optimize clinical strategy—speed, precision, and automation.
- Transform asset decision-making through modernized development models (e.g., PRISM-built).
Talent Development & Leadership
- Mentor, develop, and calibrate clinical talent within the asset programme.
- Shape new development standards and capability-driven growth aligned to the future of Oncology Clinical Development.
What You’ll Achieve in This Role
1. Enterprise Clinical Strategy & Governance
- Lead the clinical vision & narrative for the asset, ensuring alignment with patient needs and commercial readiness.
- Develop distinguished clinical positioning through governance discussions that shape portfolio prioritization.
- Align cross-functional teams (Medical Affairs, Integrated Evidence, Commercial, Regulatory) to create a coherent clinical strategy.
2. Clinical Development Planning & Benefit-Risk Leadership
- Own the Clinical Development Plan (CDP), ensuring it reflects enterprise strategy while prioritizing key evidence assets.
- Define margin-thinking development trade-offs, enabling data-informed decisions throughout asset evolution.
3. Scientific Translation & External Engagement
- Build authoritative clinical narrative via Health Authority interactions, congress posters, and licenceوس responses.
- Frame asset-level insights in real-time, advising strategic partnership alignment.
4. Talent & Culture Suitability
- Grow the next gen of clinical leaders by anticipating evolving market needs and updating standards.
- Empower teams to meet new development demands through skill-building initiatives.
What You Bring to GSK
Required Qualifications
This role values influencing from both medical & non-medical backgrounds. Essential: 🉑 A Medical degree (MD), PharmD, PhD, or equivalent advanced degree (preferably MD or clinical doctorate). 🔬 Depth of oncology clinical development experience (proven enterprise leadership performance matters most). 🌍 Stakeholder collaboration acumen in global and complex matrix settings.

🏆 Either existing Oncology board certification or eligibility. 💡 Board-level Health Authority guidance experience. 🗣 Executive strength in crafting and delivering patient-centric messages to scientific and public audiences.

📍 Hybrid model: At least two on-site days weekly—otherwise remote-friendly. 📊 Transparency in compensation: For US-based candidates, base salaries range from $242,250 - $403,750, with bonus potential and equity based on performance.
