Exercise Oncology Specialist (Part Time) – Portsmouth GenesisCare UK
About the Role
Exciting Opportunity – Join our dedicated team at GenesisCare UK as an Exercise Oncology Specialist at our state-of-the-art cancer care centre in Portsmouth. Play a vital role in enhancing patient wellbeing through tailored exercise programmes as part of cancer treatment and recovery.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver the Exercise Medicine Service, working under the supervision of the Physiotherapist (Exercise Clinic Lead).
- Design and implement tailored exercise programmes for patients with cancer, ensuring they are safe, engaging, and aligned with their health status and treatment plans.
- Provide guidance and support for both in-person and virtual exercise sessions.
- Manage patient schedules, ensuring the smooth operation of the clinic while maintaining records of progress, discharges, and ongoing exercise recommendations.
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., Penny Brohn consultants), external stakeholders, and healthcare professionals to create a holistic and high-quality care experience.
- Contribute to service improvements, participate in relevant forums, and uphold GenesisCare policies and standards.
- Ensure Duty of Candour compliance, maintaining patient safety and legal/statutory requirements.

Essential Qualifications & Skills
- Level 3 Qualified Personal Trainer with at least 3 years’ experience.
- Knowledge of Oncology and long-term conditions.
Desirable Qualifications & Skills
- Level 4 Qualification in Cancer and Exercise.
- GP referral qualification or specialist population instructor qualifications (where applicable).
- Registration with a professional body (CIMSPA+).
- Motivational/behavioural interviewing skills.
- Microsoft/Excel/databases proficiency.

- Those living with/beyond cancer (desirable).
- Individuals with long-term conditions (desirable).
- Essential soft skills:
- Strong communication (limits tailored to patients, carers, professionals).
- Organisational ability/initiative.

- Professional presentation.
