About The Role

Archaeological Research Services Ltd are recruiting experienced Archaeologists from Archaeological Officer through to Senior Project Officer level for work on a variety of projects around the UK, attached to one of our offices in Bedford, Cheltenham, Bakewell, Sheffield, Sale or Tyneside. We have positions available for an immediate start. We particularly welcome candidates based in the Gloucestershire Area.

Experienced Archaeological Officers: £27,200 – £27,800

Assistant Project Officers: £29,931-£32,000

Project Officers: £33,852- £38,800

Permanent positions following successful six-month probation.

The Positions

Do you have good team-working ability, enthusiasm and drive to complete tasks and contribute to the operational success of projects? Do you have a passion for hands-on outdoors work with real responsibility on sites that shape our understanding of the past? Do you want to join a supportive team which values innovation, career progression and purpose? We are looking for highly motivated, organised and efficient people with a range of experience.

Successful candidates will have experience of taking part in field projects, contributing to post-excavation work, a sound knowledge of UK archaeology and the ability to write accurate, clear English. For more senior positions you need to be an effective leader, motivator and manager of a team. You need to be a highly competent field archaeologist, with experience of organising and running field projects, surveying and GIS, completing post-excavation work and producing high quality reports for a wide range of projects.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
