SEN Teaching Assistant - Specialist Primary School
Location: Mile End

Contract: Full time, Term time only

Daily Duties
- Support primary-aged pupils with Learning Difficulties, Autism and additional learning needs.
- Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions tailored to individual learning plans.
- Adapt classroom activities and learning resources to meet pupils' needs.
- Encourage communication, independence and social development.
- Support positive behaviour using consistent and nurturing strategies.
- Work closely with teachers, therapists and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Monitor pupil progress and provide regular feedback to teaching staff.
- Support pupils during playtimes, educational visits and enrichment activities.
- Promote a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment.
- Help pupils develop confidence, resilience and independence throughout the school day.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Previous experience as a SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Support Worker or within a similar support role.
- Experience supporting children or young people with Learning Difficulties, Autism or additional educational needs.
- A caring, patient and compassionate approach.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and families.
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn new specialist approaches.
- Confidence supporting pupils with varying levels of need within a specialist setting.
- A genuine passion for helping children achieve their full potential.
Safeguarding Requirements
This role involves regular, direct and unsupervised contact with children and young people and is classed as regulated activity relating to children. The successful candidate will be expected to uphold the highest standards of safeguarding, promote the welfare of all pupils and follow all school safeguarding policies and procedures. Appointment is subject to satisfactory safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS check with children's barred list check where applicable, identity verification, qualification checks, employment history checks and suitable references.
