About the Role

Are you a software developer passionate about solving complex problems and aspiring to take on a technical leadership role?

This position is embedded in Frazer-Nash Consultancy’s Software and Digital Architecture capability, where software is the foundation of solutions addressing critical national challenges. You’ll collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, blending software engineering, numerical modelling, and domain science while working closely with clients, scientists, and engineers.

For the near-to-medium term, this role involves onsite work in Basingstoke, offering direct exposure to real-world problems and stakeholders. This is ideal for someone seeking to deeply specialise technically while developing skills in mentorship, technical influence, and project leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop high-quality, robust, and maintainable software components using Java and C++.
  • Build and enhance custom integration frameworks for solver coupling and data exchange.
  • Collaborate onsite with clients, domain scientists, and engineers to translate requirements into solutions.
  • Contribute to software architecture, ensuring optimised performance, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Develop clean, well-documented, and testable code adhering to scientific software best practices.
  • Participate in code reviews, debugging, and performance profiling to elevate team quality.
  • Mentor junior developers via technical guidance, constructive feedback, and knowledge sharing.
  • Over time, take on extended technical leadership duties, including project planning, direction, and stakeholder influence.
  • Strengthen client relationships and contribute to business development, such as through technical proposals.
  • Engage in consultative problem-solving for projects with high-consequence real-world impact.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
