We’re looking for an experienced Technician to join our team. This is a hands-on role for a skilled technician with proven experience in maintenance, installation and repair work within a related sector (for example utilities, highways, civils, or plant & machinery). You will be expected to work independently and as part of a small team, deliver high-quality work to clients, and maintain a strong focus on health and safety at all times. The position will involve travel between sites across the North West and neighbouring regions and requires flexibility to work varying shifts, including occasional nights and weekends.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a technician or operative in a relevant field (minimum 2 years preferred)
  • Relevant qualifications or trade certifications (NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent) where applicable
  • Full UK driving licence (WITH 6 POINTS OR LESS). Driver checks will be completed
  • CSCS card or evidence of application where required for site activities
  • Strong understanding of health & safety, risk assessments and safe systems of work
  • Comfortable working on live carriageways, highway verges or near plant and machinery where required
  • Ability to carry out practical troubleshooting, diagnostics and routine maintenance
  • Flexible to travel to multiple sites and work varying shift patterns, including occasional weekends

Licence/Certifications desirable

  • CSCS Green card minimum
  • Streetworks operative or supervisor certification (desirable)
  • SMSTS or SSSTS (desirable)
  • Relevant plant, machine or banksman accreditation (desirable)
  • First aid at work or emergency first aid (desirable)

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out installation, maintenance and repair tasks to a high standard and in line with specification
  • Follow method statements, risk assessments and site-specific safe working instructions
  • Conduct pre-start checks, daily equipment inspections and vehicle checks where applicable
  • Complete accurate site records, defect reports and handover paperwork
  • Assist in setting up safe working areas and temporary traffic management when required
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, contractors and clients to coordinate site activity
  • Identify and report defects, escalate issues and suggest improvements to processes or equipment
  • Maintain tools, equipment and company vehicles in a clean and serviceable condition

Person specification

  • Practical, organised and able to work independently with attention to detail
  • Good communication skills and ability to build effective working relationships
  • Reliable, professional and committed to delivering excellent workmanship
  • Comfortable using digital systems for data capture and job documentation
  • Physically capable of manual handling tasks and working outdoors in varying conditions
  • Positive attitude to training and continuous improvement
  • Flexible approach to travel and shift patterns across the North West and neighbouring regions
