About This Opportunity
About the role
We're assembling a very small group of experienced controllers to set the quality bar for AI-completed accounting work. The final graders and standard-setters, the same role a controller plays for their own accounting team, applied to AI-completed work.
Typical work
- Define what "done correctly" means: quality standards and rubric templates grounded in GAAP and internal-control practice, applied to tasks built from a real company's ledger
- Review and approve the scenarios and grading rules written by staff and senior accountants; adjudicate disagreements and edge cases, yours is the final call
- Spot-check AI-completed work against the rubrics and make the judgment that anchors the whole study: would this survive a controller's review?

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- 8+ years in accounting incl. real ownership of month-end close; controller or assistant-controller experience; CPA strongly preferred.
- Experience running or reviewing books across multiple entities or clients
- Have managed and reviewed other accountants' work: comfortable making final quality calls and putting the reasoning in writing
- Practical GAAP and internal-control fluency applied to small-company books
- Comfortable assessing messy, system-synced ledgers (QuickBooks/NetSuite/Sage integrations, duplicates, migration artifacts)
- Exceptionally crisp written standards: you can turn professional judgment into pass/fail rules that different graders apply the same way
