We’re looking for an Expert Practitioner – Advanced Dissection to join our Histology team at HCA Laboratories, Shropshire House in London. This is a senior, expert‑level role for a practitioner who values autonomy, precision and professional credibility. With continued investment in technology and facilities, our laboratories are designed to support advanced practice and high quality diagnostics, giving you the tools and environment needed to work at the top of your profession.
As an Expert Practitioner within Histology, you’ll be part of a highly specialised service supporting acute care across HCA Hospitals, IVF clinics, insurance work, healthcare screening and GP services. Working alongside experienced colleagues across pathology disciplines, you’ll operate with a high level of independence on complex specimens while acting as a role model for quality, consistency and best practice. This role suits someone who takes pride in expert practice, enjoys problem solving, and wants to contribute to the development of standards and ways of working in a busy, well resourced laboratory.

What You’ll Do
Dissect diagnostic A–E graded histopathology specimens across a wide range of tissue types, from benign to complex malignant cases, in line with SOPs based on RCPath guidelines Support the retention of UKAS accreditation within the Histology dissection service, maintaining high standards of quality and compliance Troubleshoot and resolve technical or workflow issues within dissection, using your advanced expertise to maintain efficiency and accuracy Plan, prioritise and manage workload effectively to meet turnaround times in a high throughput laboratory environment Work in line with HCA policies and procedures, acting as a role model for best practice and professional standards

What You’ll Bring
Extensive experience in histopathology dissection, including independent handling of A–E graded specimens across a range of benign and malignant tissue types Strong working knowledge of RCPath guidelines and UKAS standards, with a consistent, quality focused approach to SOPs Proven ability to work autonomously at an advanced level, demonstrating confidence, accuracy and sound judgement in complex dissection Experience working in a fast paced laboratory environment, with the ability to prioritise workload and meet demanding turnaround times Excellent problem solving skills, with the confidence to troubleshoot and resolve dissection related issues
