Role Description
This is a role within the Castrol organisation and the successful candidate will become part of the Castrol ring-fence. If you are part of the ring-fence, it is expected that your employment will move with Castrol to new ownership.
Role Purpose
The Expert Technologist – Data Management leads data transformation and AI enablement across Castrol Product Technology, accelerating the adoption of scalable digital solutions that improve decision-making, data quality, and business value. The role partners closely with digital and technical teams to embed modern data practices, strengthen data ecosystems, and unlock advanced analytics and AI opportunities.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead data transformation initiatives across Castrol Product Technology, enabling advanced analytics, AI, and data science applications through improved data quality, structure, and standardisation.
- Drive adoption of strategic digital solutions by working with end users, supporting early-stage discovery, shaping solution design, and ensuring successful deployment into day-to-day workflows.
- Expand and optimise digital ecosystems, integrating new data sources and converting fragmented datasets into scalable, high-quality assets that accelerate innovation and enhance decision-making.
- Establish and uphold data standards and governance frameworks, ensuring consistency, rigour, and alignment with wider Castrol data initiatives.
- Build strong internal and external partnerships, identifying opportunities to leverage AI and advanced analytics and leading the scalable implementation of AI-driven solutions across the organisation.

Essential Experience & Capabilities
- Proven experience in the Castrol product development lifecycle and a strong understanding of data utilisation within a Product Technology environment.
- Demonstrated digital and data capability, with a track record of designing, initiating, and delivering successful digital solutions in a business-led environment.
- Experience motivating change through training, mentoring, and embedding new systems or digital ways of working.
- Collaboration skills, with a history of operating optimally within high-performing teams and engaging diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, define requirements, iterate solutions, and deliver clear, actionable plans.
- Passion for supporting digital initiatives in a multifaceted, open, and fast-paced environment.
- Degree in a scientific or engineering rigor discipline.
About The Team
The Data Management & Knowledge Management Team is the central function responsible for defining long-term data strategy, governing data quality, managing knowledge assets, and growing digital adoption. The team enables data-driven innovation and faster product development across Castrol Product Technology.
