Team/Role Overview:
Citi’s Export & Agency Finance (“EAF”) arranges medium and long-term cross border structured financings with the support of Official Agencies, including export credit agencies (“ECAs”), development finance institutions (“DFIs”) and multilateral development banks (“MDBs”). EAF operates as a global platform which has the ability to structure, arrange, underwrite, syndicate and lend under bespoke debt financings that defease risk through credit and political risk support from the Official Agencies and/or access their funding, lending or interest support programs. EAF is implementing a growth plan with a view to significantly increasing the number of loans that it originates and books each year.
We are seeking a Vice President to support the continued growth of our Sub-Saharan Africa franchise. Based in London, the successful candidate will originate, structure, execute and manage the agency supported and structured financing transactions across Sub-Saharan Africa, while partnering closely with clients, Official Agencies, and internal stakeholders globally.
The role offers significant client exposure and responsibility for business development across a diverse and rapidly growing region.
What you’ll do:
- Originate, structure and execute structed financing transaction supported by the Official Agencies, across Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Develop and maintain relationships with sovereigns, corporate, and FI clients.
- Identify new business opportunities and contribute to the strategic growth of the EAF franchise.
- Partner closely with Banking, Corporate Finance, Risk, Compliance, Operations and other product partners to deliver client solutions.
- Prepare and present transaction proposals and client presentation to senior stakeholders.
- Assume responsibility for lending and portfolio risk management related to the EAF business in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Act with a level of autonomy in both origination and execution to seek out and pitch for new opportunities where Official Agencies support can be used to the benefit of Citi’s clients.
- Ensure the Sub-Saharan ECA business is conducted within the risk and control framework for the business, ensuring alignment with Citi’s policy and procedures.

What we’ll need from you:
- A detailed understanding of the ECA and Official Agencies finance market with demonstrable industry experience.
- Relevant ECA experience in particular in Sub-Saharan Africa region and an understanding of the ECA market dynamics across the continent.
- A willingness to travel to relevant markets across the region to deliver the objectives of the business.
- High level knowledge and understanding of liquidity, capital management and balance sheet optimisation.
- Corporate finance and lending skills (including asset, infrastructure and/or project finance experience).
- Track record of managing one of more ECA markets within a similar institution and working in a high performing, geographically distributed product and structuring team.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to partner with key stakeholders and senior management and influence the strategic direction of the business.
- Superior organizational skills and experience in working with a multi-cultural team environment.
- Fluency in a second language (French) preferred but not essential.
- Under-graduate or Post-graduate qualified individual preferred.
