Job Title: Export Road Freight Forwarder

Department: European Road Freight Operations

Reports to: Operations Manager

Location: Felixstowe Office-based

Role Type: Full-time

Role Purpose

To manage European export road freight movements from quotation through to delivery, ensuring shipments are planned correctly, customers are kept informed, hauliers are managed effectively, and customs requirements are coordinated with the customs team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Arrange and manage European export road freight shipments, including part loads and full loads.
  • Operate export trailers efficiently, planning collections, departures, transit and final delivery.
  • Prepare accurate and competitive export quotations while protecting company margin.
  • Negotiate rates and service options with hauliers, agents and European partners.
  • Liaise with the customs team to ensure export documentation, clearance instructions and customs requirements are handled correctly.
  • Check shipment details and ensure customers provide the correct commercial invoices, packing lists and export information.
  • Keep customers updated throughout the export process, including collection, departure, customs status and delivery.
  • Build strong working relationships with customers, hauliers, overseas partners and internal teams.
  • Manage and support a portfolio of export customers, monitoring activity and following up on reduced volumes.
  • Identify opportunities to retain, upsell and grow existing export accounts.
  • Ensure shipment details, costs, charges and customer records are updated accurately on internal systems.
  • Resolve delays, border issues, customs queries and supplier problems quickly and professionally.
  • Maintain commercial awareness on all jobs, including margin, additional charges and cost control.

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Experience in freight forwarding, transport or logistics.
  • Good understanding of European export road freight operations.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Confident negotiator with customers, hauliers and partners.
  • Good attention to detail and administration.
  • Ability to manage multiple shipments and deadlines.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of margin.

Desirable:

  • Experience with European export trailer operations.
  • Knowledge of export documentation and customs processes.
  • Experience managing customer accounts or portfolios.
  • Existing haulier or European partner relationships.

They will be able to work under pressure, solve problems quickly, build strong relationships and take ownership of both export shipments and customer accounts.
