Export Specialist

Ocean Exports Operator – Manchester (M32)

A global logistics company is seeking an experienced Ocean Freight Export Operator to join their Manchester team. This role involves managing end-to-end ocean export shipments while delivering customer service excellence and maintaining strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.


Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Ocean Exports Operator based in our Manchester office. This position focuses on providing exceptional customer service alongside managing the complete ocean export process, including shipments, quotations, customs clearance, invoicing, and relationship management. You will need to demonstrate adaptability, assisting with multimodal activities and supporting supervisors during leave or busy periods.


Key Responsibilities

As an Ocean Exports Operator, you will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining regular communication with customers and suppliers to nurture long-term relationships
  • Managing cost control and job profitability
  • Completing end-to-end ocean export forwarding activities (including FCL and LCL shipments)
  • Adhering to strict SOPs and KPIs to ensure compliance and operational efficiency
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external partners
  • Delivering exceptional customer service across all interactions
  • Utilising CargoWise software and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ensuring invoices and job costing are processed on time
  • Supporting month-end departmental compliance
  • Completing customs entries and maintaining compliance with regulations
  • Assisting supervisors and managers as required
  • Producing internal and customer reports within deadlines
  • Resolving customer and supplier queries efficiently
  • Supporting health & safety and Quality Assurance standards
  • Participating in rate reviews (internally and externally)
  • Contributing to customer reviews to enhance relationships
  • Supporting sales and management in customer development
  • Completing additional duties as assigned

Requirements & Experience

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in ocean freight forwarding (specifically exports, covering FCL & LCL)
  • Strong experience using CargoWise software
  • Proficient PC skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Sound understanding of customs clearance, tariffs, and procedures
  • Ability to follow and contribute to operational procedures and SOPs
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Meet minimum educational requirements of GCSE/O-Level standard or equivalent

Salary & Benefits

This position offers an annual salary ranging from £30,000 – £35,000, including excellent benefits such as:

  • Life and health insurance coverage

Work hours are based on-site (Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week).
