About the Business Unit

Mott MacDonald’s Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit provides project, programme, and commercial management (PPCM) services alongside advisory solutions across industries, including:

  • Built environment
  • Energy & renewables
  • Water & environmental remediation
  • Healthcare
  • Transportation

Drawing from £20bn+ project experience, APD combines programme management, cost controls, infrastructure finance, digital consulting, and governance to deliver seamless project lifecycles.

Key Focus Area: Energy – Nuclear Decommissioning

We partner with regulatory bodies, government agencies, and private operators to safely manage nuclear facility decommissioning. Our work spans:

  • Strategy development & cost/risk optimisation
  • Waste management & site remediation
  • Infrastructure transformation
  • Regulatory compliance & safety assurance

Overview of the Role

Mott MacDonald is expanding its energy portfolio, particularly in nuclear decommissioning, and seeks a Quantity Surveyor to join teams in Whitehaven and Warrington.

Key Responsibilities

  • NEC4 Contract Administration: Manage contracts within nuclear decommissioning programmes while aligning with procurement and governance frameworks.
  • Cost Control & Variance Management: Control contract variations, track expenditures, and develop accurate, forward-looking forecasting.
  • Cross-Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as commercial bridge between clients, contractors, and project teams to ensure efficiency and transparency.
  • Risk & Value Optimization: Mitigate risks, identify cost-saving opportunities, and uphold commercial integrity through the project lifecycle.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure work complements nuclear safety standards and environmental protections.

Experience & Qualification Requirements

Mandatory:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (e.g., Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering).
  • NEC4 ECC Accreditation with practical contract administration experience.
  • Membership (or working towards) of a professional body: MRICS, NRW, or equivalent.
  • Experience administering NEC contracts in infrastructure, regulated environments, or high-complexity settings (nuclear/energy preferred).
  • Technical skills: Strong cost estimating, change control, and cash flow management expertise.
  • Contract Tools: Proven experience with NEC4 ECC contracts + CEMAR toolkit.
  • Technical Proficiency: Excellence in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).

Desirable:

  • NEC4 Project Manager Accreditation.
  • Administration experience with Thinkproject Contracts.
  • Familiarity with UK nuclear facility operations (e.g., decommissioning, radiation safety).

Security Clearance

Offers are subject to obtaining required clearance levels for nuclear-sensitive roles.
