A bit about the role

This expression of interest is to join the School Crossings team as part of the Community Life division which strives to develop healthy, active, connected and safe communities through the delivery of community facilities, events, experiences and life cycle services from birth to older age.

As a School Crossing Supervisor, you will assist students and families to travel safely to and from school. The crossings are located at selected intersections, pedestrian light crossings and at flagged children's crossings across the City of Casey.

You will be required to travel between various locations across the City of Casey. You will need to be available between the hours of 8am to 9.15am and 2.30pm to 4pm Monday – Friday within the school term.

What you’ll deliver

  • Vigilantly operate school crossings in accordance with the “Instructions for Children’s Crossing Supervisors” as prepared by Vic Roads.
  • Ensure that it is safe to cross before allowing any person onto the crossing.
  • At crossings without traffic lights, stop the traffic when safe and sensible to do so and direct the flow of pedestrians in accordance with issued instructions.
  • Consider traffic needs to ensure safe traffic flow and congestion.
  • Attend training sessions as required.

What you’ll bring

  • Comfortability with the nature of casual work.
  • Availability to attend an in-person group interview.
  • Availability to work morning and afternoon shifts during school terms for a maximum of 1.5 hours per day (crossing shifts will vary between 30 minutes – 1 hour, with a maximum 1.5 hours per day).
  • Good communication skills and previous experience working with children or the general public.
  • Ability to endure the outdoor weather conditions, wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Are able to stand for minimum one hour, twice per day, while holding a sign (up to 2kg) in variable positions with one hand.
  • Have a current mobile phone, Victorian Drivers Licence and use of a reliable vehicle.
  • Are comfortable using technology and operating a handheld device which includes, completing online training, using text messaging systems and various apps
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including: National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check and Eligibility to Work check (All requiring 100 points of ID including Birth certificates OR Passports).
