Overview
We are seeking an experienced External Quality Lead Auditor to deliver QAN/QAR (Qualified Approved New/QAR) and related audits, split equally (30% UK / 70% international). This role is crucial for ensuring compliance with industry standards and supporting clients in maintaining high-quality, safe operations. By delivering robust audits and fostering strong customer relationships, you will help reinforce SGS’s reputation for excellence.
Key Responsibilities

Plan and conduct external audits for manufacturing audit systems in line with:
- BS EN IEC 80079-34
- CCC (China Compulsory Certification)
- Korean
- North American
- Other global schemes as required

Evaluate compliance against documented processes and identify:
- Nonconformities
- Risk vulnerabilities
- Improvement opportunities

Produce accurate audit reports and verify the effectiveness of corrective actions taken by clients.

Maintain adherence to SGS’s audit schedules and documentation requirements, including accreditation compliance.

Champion a culture of customer service and quality, ensuring alignment with SGS’s integrity standards.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential Requirements
Expertise in:
- Delivering third-party audits in engineering or hazardous area environments, with a strong grasp of quality management systems (QMS) and compliance standards.
- Minimum 2+ years’ experience as a Lead Auditor

Key Skills & Knowledge
- Deep understanding of ISO 9001:2015 and expertise in audit principles, techniques, and practices
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills
- Attention to detail, high personal integrity
- Ability to effectively manage multiple audits simultaneously
Location & Travel Requirements
- Must hold a valid UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel extensively, both domestically (UK) and internationally (70% of role).
Desirable (Non-essential add-ons)
- Familiarity with EN ISO/IEC 80079-34 and broader IECEx (such as ATEX / UKEx) standards.
- Experience in engineering environments (preferably hazardous areas or explosion-proof equipment).
- Advanced qualifications (e.g. MSc, MBA) or professional memberships.
