EYST is excited to be recruiting a Project Co-ordinator for our Troi'r Llanw/ Turning the Tide Project. The project is a partnership funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and led by CAT (Centre for Alternative Technologies) with the aim of normalise community-led climate work, ensure marginalised voices shape environmental decisions, and help people feel empowered in the face of the climate crisis.

Job Description

Job Title EYST Troi'r Llanw/ Turning the Tide Project Co-ordinator

Hours of Work 35 hrs per week (PT) Incl. some evenings & weekends

Salary £28,000 per annum

Tenure Fixed Term till contract of 30 month

Responsible for Service Users, Volunteers,

Responsible to BME CYP Project Manager

Location of Work EYST Cardiff (with travel across South Wales when required)

Notes

  • Successful candidate will need to have an enhanced DBS and Prove the right to work in the UK
  • This role needs to be delivered in person
  • This role will be hosted by EYST but is part of a wider partnership project led by CAT

Project Overview

About Troi’r Llanw / Turning the Tide

Troi'r Llanw/Turning the Tide is a three-year project funded from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest community funder in the UK. This comes from the Climate Action Fund, a long-term commitment to support communities across the UK to act on climate change and involve more people in positive environmental action. The project aims to normalise community-led climate work, ensure marginalised voices shape environmental decisions, and help people feel empowered in the face of the climate crisis. The project is led by the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) alongside Cwmpas, Youth Cymru, Mentrau Iaith Cymru, and Ethnic Minorities and Youth Support Team Wales (EYST). This project aims to influence community-led climate action by delivering a Wales-wide (bilingual) programme to promote climate action. It will link community initiatives to share innovations and good practice, create and support a peer network of environmental champions, and disseminate results to inform Welsh and UK-level policy and practice.

Aims of the Post

  1. To deliver engaging workshops on climate change, environmental sustainability to clients
  2. Organise and deliver trips & activities, both locally and nationally to showcase sustainability
  3. Engage youth, community members and faith leaders to develop environmental champions
  4. To work effectively in collaboration with partner organisations to deliver project targets
  5. Support wider EYST engagement activities in line with project deliverable

Principal Accountabilities and Main Duties

  1. Deliver 3 workshops per year in each area of EYST key locations (Swansea, Cardiff, Newport & Wrexham) on climate change, environmental sustainability, (food, heating, and energy consumption,) potentially incorporating cultural & faith perspectives.
  2. Organise 1 local/Wales-based trips for each area (Swansea, Cardiff, Newport & Wrexham)
  3. Organise 1 national trip (e.g., Cambridge Eco Mosque) to showcase sustainable culture
  4. Provide 1 EDI and engagement training sessions annually to partner organisations.
  5. Engage youth, community members and faith leaders to develop environmental champions.
  6. Upskill communities through carbon literacy and practical climate solutions
  7. Address wider issues such as racism and the link between poverty, housing, health, war, environment, and migration
  8. Promote economic and direct impact through sustainable practices informed by culture/ faith values.
  9. Raise awareness of climate change and environmental sustainability, fostering meaningful engagement across communities and faith groups to inspire practical action and long-term behavioural change.
  10. Ensure Project targets are meet inline with partnership goals and desired outcomes.
  11. Support EYST existing engagement activities including but not limited to , Community Food donation, Community Garden, Cooking classes, Bookings and SIM distribution

General Duties

  1. To ensure regular reporting and updates to partners and within EYST as required
  2. To ensure the collection, entry and return of information as required for monitoring and evaluation, input onto EYST CRM system (Charitylog)
  3. To take part in training courses, staff meetings and regular supervision
  4. To work within relevant health and safety legislation
  5. To ensure that the project promotes and reflects equality of opportunity at all levels
  6. To ensure that EYST Safeguarding, Data Protection, Health and Safety and all other relevant policies are implemented.
  7. To uphold the confidentiality of information of service users.
  8. To carry out any other duties that may from time to time be required
  9. Support EYST External Training Delivery when required

Person Specification

Essential

  1. A minimum of one years’ experience working with ethnic minority communities (preferably in Wales)
  2. Experience of delivering and co-ordinating a project
  3. Understanding of key sustainability topics such as climate change, environmental sustainability
  4. Experience of monitor and evaluating projects against targets and reporting to funders
  5. Experience of working with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  6. Experience of working in partnership with statutory and voluntary organisations, and knowledge of local provision.
  7. Excellent communications and interpersonal skills (including both clients and professionals)
  8. Ability to working under pressure in challenging environments
  9. Ability to work independently, with minimum supervision, and take initiative.
  10. Ability to comply with Health & Safety procedures in different environment
  11. Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding including Digital Safeguarding issues.
  12. Understanding and knowledge of Confidentiality
  13. Organised and self-motivated
  14. Excellent IT skills, confident using online engagement platforms including Zoom and Teams
  15. Demonstrable commitment to EYST’s organisational values of Equality, Human Rights, Social Justice and Making a Positive Difference

Daw hyn o’r Gronfa Gweithredu ar yr Hinsawdd, ymrwymiad hirdymor i gefnogi cymunedau ledled y DU i weithredu ar y newid yn yr hinsawdd a chynnwys mwy o bobl mewn gweithredu amgylcheddol cadarnhaol. Nod y prosiect yw normaleiddio gwaith hinsawdd dan arweiniad y gymuned, sicrhau bod lleisiau ymylol yn siapio penderfyniadau amgylcheddol, a helpu pobl i deimlo eu bod wedi’u grymuso yn wyneb yr argyfwng hinsawdd.
