Fabric Engineer
Fabric Engineer – Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) & Sandwell General Hospital (West Bromwich)
About the Role
Equans is seeking an experienced Fabric Engineer to join our team in delivering essential maintenance and repairs across Midland Metropolitan University Hospital NHS Trust estates. This is a full-time (40-hour) role with the following key responsibilities:
What You’ll Deliver
You will take responsibility for a range of fabric-based maintenance tasks, including:
- Undertaking reactive and proactive fabric works across both hospital estates
- Managing complex building systems, including:
- Fire doors and passive fire protection
- Drainage, cladding, and roof systems
- General joinery modifications/repairs
- Completing diagnostic fault finding and rapid response repairs, ensuring compliance with legislation, industry standards, and operational procedures
- Obtaining Competent Person status (following training) in high-risk areas such as:
- Confined spaces
- Working at height
- Other specialised domains as relevant
- Carrying out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks to maintain building service integrity, adhering to site programmes and personal competence standards
Salary & Benefits
- Salary Band: £32,000–£35,000 per annum (dependent on experience and skills)
- Annual Leave: 24 days (+ public holidays)

Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Qualifications: Recognised apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., City & Guilds level)
- Technical Knowledge: Broad understanding of fabric-focused systems, including:
- Fire doors and passive fire protection
- Drainage, cladding, roof, timber, and steel systems
- General joinery/masonry. Healthcare experience is desirable.
- Clearance: Must pass a DBS Standard check
- Rights: Valid UK work right (relocation assistance unavailable)
