Building a sustainable tomorrow
BAM UK & Ireland is recruiting a Building Technician for our FM segment of the business, to work alongside a team of specialised technicians based out of Derbyshire Police Headquarters providing a fully encompassing service delivery plan for our client. Working 40 Hours per week Monday - Friday between the hours of 8.00am - 5.00pm. You will also be required to be on the on-call rota, there is a retention fee for this. This position requires you to be police vetted prior to start.
Your mission
In conjunction with common roles the Building Technician will have full responsibility for the Building fabric status of the site and carry out planned maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance tasks as they occur across the site.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with building fault finding
- Carry out ceiling repair, painting, skirting and facing replacement, door servicing and refurbishment of FF&E equipment.
- Ability to read, understand and diagnose building faults utilising existing experience to identify failures in cladding and interface junctions between building fabric elements.
- Identify spare parts to carry out repairs and order through appropriate channels.
- Carry out water hygiene testing (Training provided)
- Carry out fire door inspections (Training provided)
- Carry out installation and service and repair works to FF&E appliances in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines.
- Ability to inspect and carry out reactive landscape maintenance tasks in accordance with the project agreement including litter picking.
- Carry out building fabric inspections and fault finding building fabric issues.
- Liaison and supervision of subcontractors in relation to method statement risk assessment and safe execution of works.
- Monitor and order stock for related items.
- Ability to read contract documentation including as-built drawings, schedules and specifications.

Who are we looking for?
- Recognised trade qualification in Joinery/ Experience (Familiarity with Fire Doors an advantage).
- Time served tradesmen.
- Training in or experience of General H&S Regulations.
- Must be experienced and self-motivated and able to identify concerns / defects without direction.
- Full driving licence.
- Reliable. (Through regular reviews of works attendance, attitude and competence).
- Basic plumbing/mechanical and electrical experience would be advantageous.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to use initiative in day to day duties.
- Assist in the provision of the associated services within the site.
- Undertake porterage duties.
- Assist in the fulfilment of health and safety responsibilities within the site.
- Provide general support duties.
- Ensure the operation of heating plant, fire alarm systems and lighting systems.
- Open and secure building elements as required including; check windows, doors, external gates, perimeter fences to ensure condition and security.
- Carry out and supply meter readings for utility consumption.
- Other reasonable requests when required.
