Fabricator / Marine Engineer (Narrowboats)

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Fabricator / Marine Engineer to join our growing team, specialising in the construction, maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of narrowboats. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in quality craftsmanship, and wants to work on unique and rewarding projects.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, weld, and repair steel narrowboat hulls and structures.
  • Carry out engine installations, servicing, repairs, and fault finding.
  • Install and maintain propulsion systems, stern gear, and associated mechanical components.
  • Perform general fabrication work, including bespoke steelwork and modifications.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and provide effective repair solutions.
  • Work to high standards of safety, quality, and workmanship.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure projects are completed on time and to customer expectations.

  • Experience in fabrication and MIG welding (marine or structural steelwork preferred).
  • Mechanical engineering experience, ideally with diesel engines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Previous experience working on narrowboats, canal boats, or other marine vessels.
  • Relevant engineering or welding qualifications.
