We are looking for a skilled and motivated Fabricator / Marine Engineer to join our growing team, specialising in the construction, maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of narrowboats. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in quality craftsmanship, and wants to work on unique and rewarding projects.
Responsibilities
- Fabricate, weld, and repair steel narrowboat hulls and structures.
- Carry out engine installations, servicing, repairs, and fault finding.
- Install and maintain propulsion systems, stern gear, and associated mechanical components.
- Perform general fabrication work, including bespoke steelwork and modifications.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Diagnose mechanical issues and provide effective repair solutions.
- Work to high standards of safety, quality, and workmanship.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure projects are completed on time and to customer expectations.

Requirements

- Experience in fabrication and MIG welding (marine or structural steelwork preferred).
- Mechanical engineering experience, ideally with diesel engines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Previous experience working on narrowboats, canal boats, or other marine vessels.
- Relevant engineering or welding qualifications.
