Experienced Welder – Cannock (Permanent)

Position Overview

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Welder (MIG welder) to join Finning (UK) Ltd, the world’s largest Caterpillar dealership, at our Flagship workshop in Cannock. In this role, you will play an active part in welding operations, ensuring all work meets service delivery deadlines and quoted costs.

About the Role

Support welding and material investigation tasks, following SOP in tool setup and operation, and inspecting welds for contract compliance. You will also assist with weld qualification/substantiation, conduct daily equipment checks, and work from technical drawings to deliver work on specification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support in welding and material investigations
  • Set up and operate welding equipment safely and correctly, following standard operating procedures
  • Inspect finished welds to ensure compliance with contract acceptance standards
  • Participate in qualification/substantiation tests for weld projects
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and report faults immediately
  • Interpret technical drawings and complete tasks accurately

Salary & Benefits

  • £16.14–£18.30 per hour (~£36,100–£41,000 basic per annum**)
  • Monday–Friday working week with flexible start times and overtime opportunities
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays (purchase up to 5 extra days annually)

Requirements

  • Experienced MIG welder, preferably apprentice-trained (e.g., City & Guilds [C&G] or NVQ in welding/fabrication) with a strong background in fabrication
  • TIG welding experience considered an advantage
  • Proficient in mild steel with experience in heavy plate and structural steel
  • Thorough understanding of common weld defects and their causes
  • Practical experience with hand tools and preheating equipment
  • Ability to configure welding machines and settings
  • Technical drawings interpretation
  • Strong ability to work in teams or autonomously
  • Excellent knowledge of Health & Safety standards
