Winder Power is a leading UK manufacturer of distribution, power, and grid transformers, as well as generator equipment for the power generation industry. The company designs, manufactures, deploys, and manages transformers up to 132kV at 120MVA in-house, and up to 400kV with trusted manufacturing partners. Its Newton Derby division is a recognized producer of exciters and permanent magnet machines, serving utilities, renewable energy providers, and industrial clients across the UK and internationally. Established in 1898, Winder Power continues to produce all equipment to rigorous international standards at its 80,000 square foot factory in Leeds.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Fabricator / Welder role based in the Greater Leeds Area. The role involves fabricating and welding components for transformers and related equipment, using appropriate welding processes, tools, and materials to meet engineering drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities include:

- Preparing and cutting materials
- Assembling structures
- Carrying out quality checks on welded and fabricated parts
- Ensuring work meets safety and quality standards
The Fabricator / Welder will collaborate with engineers and production teams, maintain welding and fabrication equipment, and contribute to continuous improvement in manufacturing processes. The role may also involve reading technical drawings, working to production schedules, and supporting other workshop tasks as needed.
Qualifications
- Strong welding and fabrication skills, including experience with common welding processes (e.g., MIG, TIG, MMA) and metalworking tools.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, engineering specifications, and fabrication instructions.
- Good understanding of workshop health and safety practices, including safe handling of equipment and materials.
- Experience in heavy engineering, power generation, or manufacturing environments is advantageous.
- Relevant welding/fabrication qualifications or apprenticeship, and certification to recognized welding standards is beneficial.
- Attention to detail, ability to work to tight tolerances, and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- City & Guilds certification in fabrication/Welding;
- Overhead crane slinging & lifting (not essential as Training will be given);
- Any Health & Safety certification associated with the engineering industry (Desirable).
