Facade Designer

Role Title: Facades Designer

Business Unit: Oak Facades

Location: Leicester


Role Overview

A Façade Designer plays a key role in the design, detailing, and coordination of building envelope systems. This role combines creativity, technical expertise, and collaboration to ensure that façade solutions are:

  • Visually appealing
  • Practically constructed
  • Built to last
  • Aligned with architectural aspirations and regulatory requirements

What You Will Be Doing:

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop façade design concepts aligned with project requirements, client objectives, and architectural intent.
  • Produce detailed 2D drawings, 3D models, and technical specifications to support project delivery.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and stakeholders to integrate façade systems within building design.
  • Ensure compliance with building regulations, industry standards, and environmental requirements.

Expertise & Execution:

  • Research, assess, and recommend materials based on performance, sustainability, cost, and aesthetics.
  • Participate in design reviews and present proposals to clients and teams.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and support performance-led design decisions.
  • Provide technical support during construction phases to resolve design/instalation challenges.
  • Undertake site inspections and monitor installation activities against approved designs.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of façade systems, emerging technologies, materials, and industry best practices.

Documentation & Support:

  • Produce façade concept sketches, visualisations, and design options.
  • Develop detailed design drawings, technical details, and coordinated 3D models.
  • Prepare technical specifications, schedules, and material selection documentation.
  • Create coordination drawings for multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Compile site inspection reports, design reports, and technical documentation.
  • Support tender, fabrication, and construction information packages.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with architects and urban designers to refine façade solutions.
  • Work with structural, façade, and building services engineers for integrated design.
  • Liaise with contractors, specialist subcontractors, and installers during execution.
  • Engage with suppliers, fabricators, and manufacturers to review and align technical and buildability considerations.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, developers, and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

About You:

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Architectural Technology, or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 2–5 years’ experience in façade design, building envelope systems, or a related role.
  • Deep understanding of façade systems, including:
    • Curtain walling
    • Glazing
    • Rainscreen cladding
    • Associated building envelope solutions
  • Technical and regulatory knowledge, including:
    • Building codes
    • Industry standards
    • Construction practices
  • Proficiency in CAD and BIM software, e.g., AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Strong technical detailing and drawing production skills.
  • Proven collaboration and coordination abilities with cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Problem-solving prowess and analytical thinking.
  • Comprehensive understanding of construction materials and installation methodologies.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including technical clarification.
  • Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
