Facade Designer

Facades Designer – Oak Facades (Leicester)

Role Overview

A Façade Designer plays a key role in the design, detailing, and coordination of building envelope systems, ensuring they meet architectural aspirations, technical performance requirements, and relevant regulations. This role combines creativity, technical expertise, and collaboration to deliver façade solutions that are visually appealing, practical to construct, and built to last.


What You Will Be Doing

  • Develop façade design concepts that align with project requirements, client objectives, and architectural intent
  • Produce detailed 2D drawings, 3D models, and technical specifications to support project delivery
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and project stakeholders to integrate façade systems within the overall building design
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant building regulations, industry standards, and environmental requirements
  • Research, assess, and recommend materials based on performance, sustainability, cost, and aesthetic considerations
  • Participate in design reviews and support the presentation of proposals to clients and project teams
  • Undertake feasibility studies and contribute to performance-led design decisions
  • Provide technical support during construction phases, assisting in the resolution of design and installation challenges
  • Support site inspections and monitor installation activities to ensure they align with approved designs and specifications
  • Maintain knowledge of current façade systems, emerging technologies, materials, and industry best practices
  • Contribute to a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and collaborative working

Additionally, you will:

  • Produce façade concept sketches, visualisations, and design options
  • Develop detailed design drawings, technical details, and coordinated 3D models
  • Prepare technical specifications, schedules, and material selection documentation
  • Create coordination drawings and design information for multidisciplinary project teams
  • Compile site inspection reports, design reports, and technical documentation
  • Support the preparation of tender, fabrication, and construction information packages
  • Work closely with architects and urban designers to develop and refine façade solutions
  • Collaborate with structural, façade, and building services engineers to ensure coordinated design delivery
  • Liaise with contractors, specialist subcontractors, and installation teams during project execution
  • Engage with suppliers, fabricators, and manufacturers to review products, technical requirements, and buildability considerations
  • Support communication with clients, developers, and wider project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

About You

To excel in this role, you should ideally possess the following:

  • A degree qualification in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Architectural Technology, or an equivalent discipline; or a comparable level of industry experience
  • Typically 2–5 years’ experience within façade design, building envelope design, or a related field
  • Understanding of façade systems, including curtain walling, glazing, rainscreen cladding, and associated building envelope solutions
  • Familiarity with relevant building regulations, technical standards, and construction practices
  • Proficiency in CAD and BIM software, such as AutoCAD and Revit
  • Strong technical detailing and drawing production capabilities
  • Excellent coordination and collaborative working skills
  • Effective problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Strong understanding of construction materials and installation methodologies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively within project deadlines
