1. Facilities and Parks Operator (Part-Time)

About the Position

The Municipality of Brockton, adhering to its recently adopted Recreation Master Services and Facility Plan, seeks a part-time Facilities and Parks Operator to ensure efficient community service delivery. This role requires exceptional customer service, maintenance and operational management of municipal facilities and lands.

  • Voluble, proactive, flexible, and outstanding time management

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ice maintenance tasks:
    • Ice resurfacing, edging, ice depth checks, and other tasks following departmental procedures and ORFA Best Practices.
  • Ice-related duties: assisting with making, painting ice, and removal.
  • Refrigeration plant management:
    • Conduct readings, record documentation, assist with routine maintenance.
  • Maintenance of Centennial Park Pool.
  • Parkland care: trails, sports fields, and ball diamonds.
  • Equipment operation: lawn mowers, tractors, weed trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, and brush chippers.
  • Horticultural duties (as assigned).
  • Equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Turf maintenance and repairs.
  • Encompassing positive, professional customer service to facility patrons and organizations.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills Required

  • Successfully completed O.S.S.D. (Grade 12) or equivalent.
  • Willingness or ability to obtain relevant certifications from provincial bodies like:
    • Ontario Recreation Facilities Association
    • Parks Recreation Ontario
    • Ontario Parks Association (asset)
  • Asset: Experience in municipal recreation settings, including relevant facilities, arenas, pools, parks, sports fields, trails, equipment, operations.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Superior Customer Service skills.
  • Willingness or ability to obtain:
    • Basic Refrigeration Certificate
    • Chainsaw Operator Certificate
    • Safe Propane Handling Certification
    • Working at Heights Certification
    • NSPF® Certified Pool/Spa Operator® Certificate
  • Valid First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate.
  • Valid Class "G" Driver’s License in good standing.

Job Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly rate: $25.77 – $30.14 (depends on qualifications/experience).
  • Seasonal Hours:
    • April–October: up to 40 hours/week.
    • November–March: approximately 24–32 hours/week (variable, including early mornings, evenings, weekends).

2. Summer Parks Maintainer

About the Position

Reporting to the Facilities and Parks Supervisor, this casual, seasonal role assists with maintaining Brockton’s parks, sports fields, trails, and Community Centre. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, with previous landscaping/horticulture experience held as an asset.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintenance of sports fields, parks, trails, and Community Centre.
  • Horticultural tasks: planting, watering, weeding gardens, hanging baskets.
  • Custodial duties for public facilities, including washrooms and garbage management.
  • Safe operation/maintenance of parks equipment (lawn mowers, gas trimmers, hand tools, utility tractors, automobiles).
  • Assisting with event setup/teardown at Brockton facilities.
  • Customer service to Brockton’s guests at Lobies Campground & Visitor Information Centre in Lobies Park, including:
    • Registration, financial transactions, handling inquiries.
    • Office opening/closing, daily public service operations.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills Required

  • Landscaping/horticulture experience (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational/analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Standard First Aid & CPR C/AED (current certificate or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing.
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Security Check.

Job Specifications

  • Location: Walkerton Community Centre (290 Durham St. W, Walkerton).
  • Schedule: Flexible, up to 40 hours/week, weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
  • Term: Starting immediately through September 4, 2026.
  • Compensation: $19.00 – $20.70/hour.

3. Supply/Casual Teacher (Early Childhood Educator/Non-ECE)

About the Position

The Brockton Child Care Centre invites applications for Supply/Casual Teaching roles. The centre supports children aged 18 months–12 years and welcomes applicants from the Registry of Early Childhood Educators (RECE) or non-RECE backgrounds.

Successful candidates should be self-motivated, flexible, energetic, and adept at fostering positive relationships with children and families.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teaching gross motor skills, sensory, dramatic play, and STEM (science) activities.
  • Child supervision in various settings (indoor, outdoor, and during sleep).
  • Encouraging cooperative play, problem-solving, and social skills among children.
  • Integrating programming for special needs children.
  • Supporting planning, organizing events, field trips, and parties.
  • Assisting children with hygiene activities.
  • Answering phone inquiries, managing messages.
  • Undertaking additional duties as assigned.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Casual/Part-Time hours.
  • Compensation scale:
    • FAQ Non-ECE: $19.50 – $20.50/hour + potential for pay equity/Wage Enhancement of $2.00/hour.
    • Registered ECE: $22.85 – $23.85/hour + pay equity/Wage Enhancement Grant.
  • Benefits include:
