Facilities Maintenance Assistant
The ExtraCare Charitable Trust are currently recruiting a Facilities Maintenance Assistant at their New Oscott Village location.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and technically skilled maintenance professional to join a friendly, dedicated team within a modern retirement village environment.
About the Role
As a Facilities Maintenance Assistant, you will support the day-to-day maintenance and smooth operation of the village, carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive repairs, and general fault-finding across building services and facilities systems. The role includes a wide range of maintenance duties including basic plumbing, electrical repairs, carpentry, painting and decorating, health and safety inspections, and general building upkeep to ensure the village remains safe, compliant, and well maintained for residents, visitors, and staff.
Working as part of a supportive and customer-focused environment, you will play a key role in maintaining high standards throughout the village while supporting ExtraCare’s mission of delivering “better lives for older people”.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, and statutory compliance checks across the village.
- Perform health and safety inspections, life-critical system testing, and daily operational checks in line with legislation and company procedures.
- Ensure repair requests are prioritised, completed within target timescales, and delivered to a high standard.
- Support the management of void properties, including water safety checks, flushing routines, and general repairs.
- Work alongside contractors to ensure safe working practices, compliance with risk assessments, and quality workmanship.
- Provide general handyman support to residents, including minor repairs and furniture assembly where required.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, raise purchase orders, and report defects using company systems.
- Assist with staff induction, fire safety training, risk assessments, and resident queries or complaints.
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards and maintain a safe, clean, and compliant environment.
- Support the Maintenance Supervisor and take responsibility for maintenance operations in their absence.

Person Specification
- Ideally, a facilities background in a multi-dwelling building.
- Skills in carpentry and plumbing.
- Flexible to support the village during emergency situations and outside of normal working hours as required on a rota basis.
- To take responsibility for the repairs and maintenance service with your team on-site.
- Have a working knowledge of MS Word and Excel to maintain a system for logging maintenance requests.
- Be reliable, punctual, and able to work unsupervised.
- Able to demonstrate strong communication skills including empathy.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Committed to health and safety. COSHH or IOSHH desirable.
