Role Description
The Facilities Maintenance Assistant is a full-time, on-site role based in High Wycombe, responsible for helping to maintain a safe, clean, and well-functioning environment across the village or scheme. Day-to-day tasks include carrying out routine maintenance and minor repairs, assisting with planned preventative maintenance, and responding to basic facilities-related issues reported by residents or colleagues. The role involves supporting the upkeep of communal areas, monitoring building systems and equipment, and reporting any health and safety concerns or major faults to the Facilities Manager or senior staff. The Facilities Maintenance Assistant will also help set up rooms and equipment for activities, work with external contractors when required, and follow all relevant safety and compliance procedures.

- Practical skills in basic building maintenance, including minor repairs, painting, and general upkeep.
- Ability to use hand tools and small electrical tools safely, and carry out simple checks on building systems (e.g., lighting, heating, ventilation).
- Awareness of health and safety standards in a residential or care setting, including safe working practices and incident reporting.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to interact respectfully with residents, colleagues, volunteers, and contractors.
- Good organizational skills, reliability, and attention to detail when completing maintenance tasks and record keeping.
- Willingness to work on-site, be physically active, and occasionally support moving furniture or equipment in line with manual handling guidance.
- Previous experience in facilities, maintenance, housing, or a similar environment is beneficial.
- Basic IT skills for accessing maintenance logs, emails, and internal systems; formal qualifications or trade training are an advantage but not essential.
