Facilities Maintenance Technician (Shift)
Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician (Electrical Bias) – Durham
About the Role
We are seeking an entusiastic, adaptable Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician (with an electrical bias) to ensure building facilities operate smoothly and efficiently. Based at our busy, state-of-the-art manufacturing site in Pragmatic Park, Durham, the successful candidate will report to the Senior Manager – Facilities Engineering and play a key role in the Facilities team, working a Continental shift pattern.
Responsibilities include:
- Repairing and maintaining building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical etc.)
- Conducting preventative maintenance
- Responding to maintenance requests
- Identifying and resolving safety hazards
- Keeping detailed records of maintenance activities
Candidates must demonstrate a team player mindset, with strong communication, problem-solving, and adaptability. This is an exciting opportunity to join our Facilities and Operations teams during a high-growth phase as we expand into high-volume manufacturing.

Key Tasks
Maintenance & Maintenance Response
- Maintain, monitor, and repair building services, including:
- Electrical systems (LV switching, lighting, fire alarms, security, CCTV)
- Mechanical plant (HVAC, compressors, chillers, pumps)
- Gas and chemical distribution systems, ultra-pure water (UPW), and waste management
- Building management systems (BMS), trend analysis, and condition monitoring

Facilities & Project Support
- Support infrastructure, facilities, operations, and welfare
- Provide project engineering assistance and contractor supervision/management
- Conduct RAMS (Risk Assessment & Method Statements) production and assessments
Safety & Record-Keeping
- Identify and resolve safety hazards
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, spare parts inventory, and stock control
Production Support
- Assist with onsite production requirements as needed
Qualifications & Training
Ideal Qualifications
- Time-served experience with qualifications such as:
- Level 2/3 Engineering
- NVQ 3 (or equivalent) in electrical/mechanical disciplines
- Desirable certifications include:
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
- Inspection & Testing (Electrical)
- Forklift (FLT) or MEWP (Mobile Elevating Work Platform) licence
Required Skills & Experience
Essential
- Significant mechanical and electrical experience
- Building services and industrial maintenance background
- Skip planned and breakdown maintenance/repair
- Strong Health & Safety awareness
- Ability to understand schematics and manuals
- Troubleshooting and breakdown response experience
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and planning skills

Desirable (Not Mandatory)
- Building management systems (BMS) knowledge
- Manufacturing experience (especially sectors like:
- Semiconductors
- Chemicals
- Pharmaceuticals)
- UPW, gas, chemical, and waste management expertise
- Flush experience (working at heights)
- MEWP and forklift (FLT) familiarity
- Experience with risk assessments and method statements
