Role summary
You’ll be part of a team responsible for ensuring that our buildings are fit for purpose. You’ll be our eyes and ears on the ground, supporting a technical role which ensures we are meeting our legal requirements with regards to health and safety. This will include a number of health and safety checks, the safekeeping of premises and equipment, and the accurate recording of results and any remedial actions taken.
Somerset’s Corporate Landlord function currently manages a building portfolio in excess of 140 buildings. You’ll be responsible for visits to a number of these buildings and so a current driving licence will be required for this role. Your central working location will be Bridgwater House, Bridgwater.

- Undertake statutory compliance checks on multiple sites, including but not limited to: fire alarm testing; Evacuation chair testing; Emergency light testing; Fire extinguisher checks; Legionella testing.
- Maintain and update records to ensure statutory compliance. Records will be of checks completed and a note where faults and defects have been found.
- Identify and appropriately address Health and Safety issues discovered on site.
- Assist with incident control during fire and security related incidents.
- Find the cause of, and deal with, alarm activations, heating system problems, contractor issues, water leaks, and know the best contact for dealing with urgent issues affecting building safety.
What we’re looking for – knowledge, experience & skills
- 6 months experience in a similar health and safety related role.
- Current driving licence (car).
- Good GCSE grades (A-C) in Maths and English.
- Good IT skills to enable effective input of data.
- Ability to communicate clearly and articulately. Able to speak fluent English as stated in part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016).
- Good interpersonal skills.

Additional Information
This is a part-time position working 22.5 hours per week.
Role will require travelling to other sites on a daily basis to undertake compliance checking. Some lone working. Some element of physical manual handling.
25 days of annual leave (additional to bank holidays) pro-rata for 22.5 hours per week.
Regretfully, we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role. We are only able to proceed with candidates who already have the right to work in the UK without the need for visa sponsorship.
