About CIBSE

CIBSE (the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) is the professional body that exists to advance and promote the art, science and practice of building services engineering, to invest in education and research, and to support our community of built environment professionals in their pursuit of excellence. We support building services engineers throughout their careers by setting standards, accrediting education and influencing industry and policy.

Working at CIBSE means being part of a collaborative organisation with a clear social purpose, where your work contributes to positive, real-world impact in a growing and evolving sector.

About The Role

The Handyperson / Facilities Operative will support the smooth day-to-day running of CIBSE’s building, ensuring that meeting rooms, event spaces, shared areas and operational facilities are safe, well presented and ready for use.

The role will involve a mixture of room setups, furniture moves, minor maintenance, compliance checks and general facilities support.

The postholder will be expected to work flexibly, respond quickly to building needs and help maintain a professional, welcoming environment for staff, members, visitors and event attendees.

What You Will Do

Maintenance and Repairs

  • Attend to minor maintenance issues around the building.
  • Rectify small faults where possible, including basic repairs, adjustments and general handyperson tasks.
  • Escalate issues to the Facilities Management Team where specialist contractors or further action is required.
  • Support contractor attendance by providing access, information and basic site assistance where needed.

Compliance and Routine Checks

  • Complete electricity meter readings at agreed intervals and record them accurately.
  • Carry out the weekly fire alarm test in line with agreed procedures.
  • Conduct water flushing tasks for small and little-used outlets, maintaining appropriate records.
  • Report any safety, maintenance or compliance concerns promptly.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
