Facilities Team Member – Birmingham North
Join our Facilities Team and play a vital role in maintaining safe, clean, and welcoming living spaces for our vibrant student community. Every contribution helps keep them feeling at home and thriving.
Location: Birmingham North Contract Type: Permanent Working Hours: 30 hours per week (4 days on, 3 days off), between 8am and 8pm, with rotating weekend cover required. Salary: Starting at £21,400 + bonus + comprehensive benefits
Key Responsibilities
Your work will drive a safer living environment and supportive community. Daily tasks may include:
- General Maintenance Tasks: Fix basic joinery, plastering, plumbing, electrical repairs, and safety maintenance across campus buildings reactively and proactively.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Monitor safety protocols, address incidents, and ensure compliance with legal standards.
- Customer Service & Community Support: Communicate effectively with students, respond to issues, and foster a welcoming atmosphere.
- Digital Work Practices: Use PDA apps for logging maintenance tasks, updating PGM systems, and reporting deficiencies.

About You
We’re looking for steady hands and a problem-solving mindset. Traditional qualifications aren’t required—what matters is:
- Licence: A valid UK driving licence (required for site mobility).
- Technical Skills: Practical knowledge of:
- Joinery and plasterwork
- Basic domestic plumbing
- Like-for-like electrical repairs (ensuring adherence to safety standards).
- Attention to Health & Safety: Proven ability to maintain standards and report hazards.
- Customer service experience: Lasting skills in interpersonal collaboration and resolving day-to-day issues.
- Problem-solving and teamwork: Experiencing university environment (optional) is a bonus, but curiosity and apprenticeship mentality matter more.
