Cardiff Students’ Union (SU)

Cardiff Students’ Union (SU) is at the heart of Cardiff student life. We are here to support students to thrive, and to have their backs when things don’t go as planned, in a safe, inclusive space where students can be who they want to be. We are consistently ranked in the top three for student satisfaction in the UK.

The Facilities Department

The Facilities Department are responsible for ensuring the building is properly maintained, clean and safe for students and visitors. We also look after all the IT equipment in the building, from the underlying network infrastructure to end user support. As well as managing day to day maintenance, cleaning and IT support, our team also ensure that our facilities and infrastructure meet government regulations, health and safety standards and energy efficiency requirements. Our team also manages all major building projects and renovation work.

Cardiff Students’ Union are looking for someone who is passionate about delivering excellent facilities, can seamlessly collaborate with various teams and possesses the motivation to drive up standards and safety. You’ll play a crucial role in the delivery of our maintenance services, that are critical to ensuring the longevity of the building and the quality of the spaces within it. Although a broad range of building maintenance knowledge and skills are desirable for the role, the make-up of the maintenance team means that we have need for someone with a carpentry background to fill the role, so that there is a broader mix of skills overall within the team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
