Exceptional Facility Lead Teacher – The Nest (Autism Facility) Chailey St Peters C of E Primary School
Role Overview

We invite applications for a unique and rewarding role: Facility Lead Teacher at The Nest, a newly opened autism facility at Chailey St Peter’s CE Primary School.
About the Role
The Nest is a calm, nurturing, and homely environment designed to support up to 12 pupils with ASD while ensuring inclusive access to mainstream classrooms via personalised timetables. The provision is committed to:
- Promoting inclusion and belonging for all children.
- Offering therapeutic, child-led learning with a strong emphasis on emotional well-being.
- Supporting children’s growth, independence, and aspirations within a collaborative team.
This one-year maternity cover post welcomes applicants with experience in autism education but also explicitly encourages Early Career Teachers (ECTs) who demonstrate genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs. The right candidate will access:
- A mentoring programme and professional development.
- Ongoing support from a skilled team and an organisational ethos geared toward choosing individuals who are deeply nurturing, inclusive, and passionate.
About The Nest
Opened in April 2026, The Nest serves as a specialist autism provision within a cohesive federation. Pupils are supported through:
- Mainstream integration via structured and personalised timetables.
- Clinical expertise, therapeutic practice, and a whole-school approach to supporting autistic learners.

There are no pre-requisites in terms of school experience, although applicants should have experience with children with special educational needs.
Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Culture:
- Set a therapeutic tone, guiding school ethos in its therapy-focused approach.
- Align with the domestic model of ASERT (Autism Services East Sussex Trust workforce paths).

Teaching & Learning:
- Maintain expertise in curriculum design for pupils with autism, incorporating assessment strategies.
- Collaborate to ensure inclusive teaching and assessment in mainstream classrooms.

Teamwork & Development:
- Partner with EHCP (Education Health Care Plans) caseworker, SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and SLT (Senior Leadership Team) where relevant.
- Contribute to whole-school professional development (e.g., workshops on autism).

Relationship Management:
- Work closely alongside signage and visual learning buddies to enhance pupil comfort.
- Maintain positive relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues.
Key Requirements
Applicants must possess the following traits:
- Demonstrated knowledge of the autism spectrum and therapeutic practice.
- A firm commitment to inclusion and a dutiful approach to safeguarding.
- Experience with early intervention and the application of ESSENCE frameworks (mental health and well-being).
- Outstanding organisation and communication skills, ensuring clarity for colleagues, parents, and pupils.
The National SENCo Qualification is strongly desirable—candidates may be:
- Currently trained or actively pursuing the qualification.
