Factory Operations Manager
Factory Manager – National FMCG Manufacturer (Leeds, Birstall/Morley)
About the Role
Our client, a national manufacturer of Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), is seeking a Factory Manager to develop and lead their semi-automated manufacturing operations based in Birstall, Leeds.
Working under the Operations Director, the role will focus on:
- Manufacturing teams, systems, and processes
- Production, Engineering, Continuous Improvement (CI), Quality, Health & Safety (H&S), and logistics
- Recent and planned strategic investment in both processes and infrastructure
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior operations leader eager to helm transformative growth within a rapidly scaling FMCG business.
Responsibilities
Key KPI-driven responsibilities include:
- Managing all aspects of factory operations, including:
- Engineering & Maintenance
- Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE)
- Continuous Improvement (Lean/Six Sigma/Kaizen)
- Quality assurance
- Warehousing & Logistics
- Standard operating processes (5S, Logistics & Management Systems)
- Managing a team of direct and indirect subordinates (total headcount: 90–110)
- Overseeing day-to-day production with emphasis on resultsdriven operation (Monday–Friday, core hours 8am–5pm, with flexibility)
- Leading Morning Meetings incl. Toolbox Talks and safety updates
- Ensuring adherence to all QHSE policies with a strong health and safety ethos
- Identifying and resolving operational bottlenecks and actively enhancing quality metrics
- Cost control for plant efficiency
- Driving a continuous improvement mindset within the factory

Key Skills & Experience
Core Qualifications
- Senior leadership in manufacturing with experience equivalent to:
- Site General Manager
- Plant Manager
- Operations Manager
- Factory Manager
- Senior Production Manager
- Proven track record in fast-paced manufacturing with significant project management element
- Strong analytical skills to diagnose operational inefficiencies and develop solutions
- KPI-driven mindset with history of ex exceeds expectations achieving targets whilst refining future growth
EssentialTechnological & Methodological Expertise
- Previous experience with manufacturing initiatives:
- Kaizen
- Six Sigma
- Lean Manufacturing
- Certification in Safety & Compliance (preferably NEBOSH) preferred, IOSH required
- Familiarity with industry-standard QHSE tools and audits

People & Stakeholder Management
- Experience working with production teams, QHSE, logistics and engineering stakeholders
- Report-writing ability: daily, weekly and monthly performance reporting coordinated at senior stakeholder meetings
- Working alongside and directing senior leadership (Operations Director, plant engineers, logistics leads)
