Starting salary for this role is £32,061 (pro rata for part-time colleagues)

Fixed term post until 31 March 2029

We’re excited to offer a rewarding opportunity for a Falls Prevention Officer to become part of our dedicated team.

The Adult Social Care Long-Term Conditions Strategic Commissioning Team is part of the Wellbeing Directorate. Our aim is to shape social care services so that they meet people’s needs and support new, creative ways of working.

Across ASC Commissioning, we’re committed to supporting BCP Council’s Adult Social Care strategy and the ASC Prevention Strategy 2025-2030 by promoting strengths-based practice, enabling independence, reducing reliance on formal care, and building community support so people can live well at home.

One of the core duties for ASC Commissioning under the Care Act is to commission or provide services that prevent, reduce or delay the need for formal care and support for both adults and carers. We do this by promoting wellbeing across the whole population, targeting early support to stop needs escalating, and helping people with existing needs stay independent, manage risk and avoid crisis. This role will directly contribute to meeting our duties in this area.

Role Purpose

Funded through the Public Health Grant, this role sits in Adult Social Care Commissioning at the heart of delivering our ASC Prevention Strategy 2025–2030 - helping us shift from reactive care to proactive support.

You’ll play a key role in shaping and strengthening falls prevention across the area - working with communities, partners and providers to develop innovative, evidence-based solutions that improve lives and reduce demand on services.

The role aims to strengthen falls prevention across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole by:

  • Supporting communities, providers and Voluntary and Community Sector (VCSE) partners to access funding and grant opportunities via the Public Health Grant contribution to Adult Social Care to implement the ASC Prevention Strategy
  • Supporting innovative use of the funding opportunities to develop of targeted, evidence-based falls prevention programmes that improve outcomes for local people and reduce demand on ASC and health services.
  • Using a data-driven approach to target areas of greatest need, working closely with providers and partners to improve inclusive support for older adults.
  • Demonstrating the value of prevention and ensuring residents and frontline staff can access and signpost to the right services, helping to create a more joined-up and preventative system.

Main Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with community groups, providers and system partners to promote collaboration, increase participation and support inclusive, evidence-based falls prevention.
  • Strengthen community capacity by supporting community partners to access funding and develop targeted, evidence-based falls prevention programmes enabling sustainable community led approaches in areas of high need.
  • Lead engagement, consultation and co-production activity (e.g. events, surveys, focus groups) to ensure residents, carers and stakeholders shape services and influence commissioning decisions.
  • Work across Public Health and Communities team, Adult Social Care, Integrated Neighbourhood Teams, VCSE and wider networks to embed a culture of prevention, improve awareness of falls prevention, and ensure effective signposting and joined-up service delivery.
  • Develop and deliver training, resources, communications and market engagement to build system-wide capability, raise awareness and strengthen collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Use data, research and lived experience insight to identify need, target high-risk groups, inform service planning, and evaluate impact through outcomes data and case studies.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Education to Diploma level or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in community engagement, partnership working and community-based development, including knowledge of local VCSE organisations and community group governance.
  • Experience of coordinating projects, events, communications and marketing activity to support engagement and awareness.
  • Knowledge of funding and grant processes, with experience supporting applications or accessing funding opportunities.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders empathetically and work effectively across organisational boundaries.
  • Ability to lead, plan and prioritise workload, managing competing demands and delivering outcomes.
  • Strong IT skills (including Microsoft Office) and ability to use data, evidence and insight to inform service planning and decision-making.
  • An awareness of the Adult Social Care sector and the building blocks of health with a willingness to learn and develop.
  • Ability to identify service needs or gaps and make recommendations to improve quality, efficiency and continuity.
  • Experience of working across organisational boundaries and with health partners (primary and/or secondary care), particularly relating to older adults (desirable).
