Family Intervention Senior Practitioner – Wakefield Awareness Support Project (WASP)
Location
Kids (Yorkshire) The Active Centre, Castleford WF10 3UA
Salary & Contract
- £25,590 per annum
- 36 hours per week (includes 2 evenings, flexible hours to be discussed at interview)

WASP is a unique service dedicated to supporting the emotional well-being of children and young people experiencing anxiety, low mood, or neurodevelopmental challenges—such as Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)—whether diagnosed or not.

Your Role as Senior Practitioner
In this position, you will:
Core Responsibilities
- Provide emotional safety and support for children and young people with autism and neurodevelopmental conditions
- Connect parents and carers to peer and professional support networks, reducing isolation
- Develop wholistic, person-centred care plans aligned with individual needs
- Lead risk assessments and ensure safeguarding compliance
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with:
- health providers
- education teams
- social care services
- CAMHS professionals
- Collaborate with agency networks to discuss referral pathways and parent training initiatives
Team Leadership
- Mentor and support colleagues, volunteers (with lived experience), and junior staff to develop skills in support methodologies, safeguarding, and resilience
- Represent the project at internal and external meetings

Administrative & Operational Duties
- Manage a busy caseload with attention to detail
- Document progress using Microsoft Word, Excel, and information management systems
- Coordinate with policy and safeguarding teams to ensure compliance
What We’re Looking For
EssentialQualifications & Skills
- Experience working with autism/neurodevelopmental support or children’s mental health
- Proven ability to build rapid trust with families and young people
- Excellent communication, empathy, and problem-solving skills
- Digital literacy: competent with Microsoft Word, Excel, and CRM systems
- Strong organisational skills with deadline management
- Resilience in emotionally demanding settings
