How you'll make a difference
As a Family Link Worker in our Education, Learning and Skills department, you will play a key role in contributing to improving school attendance. Your work will help shape brighter futures for children and young people across South Gloucestershire. Working directly with children and young people of statutory school age (5 to 16 years), including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families, you will help them to identify and address barriers to school attendance and provide tailored support to promote engagement and success.
What you will be doing
Working alongside families, you will seek to identify and remove barriers that are reducing school attendance, this includes completing assessments and agreeing a plan with the family so progress can be made with the young person. Building effective relationships with families, children and schools, you will provide practical support, such as helping children get to school, financial assistance and supporting families to work collaboratively with schools. It will be key for you to liaise with a variety of partners such as schools, education colleagues, social care, health and preventative services to ensure joined up support for families. You will review progress with other teams and report back to supervisors with any safeguarding concerns when necessary. It will be your responsibility to contribute to Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) education duty system as required. You will visit schools, community venues and family homes to suit the individual needs of the families and young people you will be working with.

What we need from you

We require you to hold an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline or be working towards an appropriate qualification related to the provision of services to children and young people. You must have relevant experience of working in a similar service area with children, young people or families requiring additional support, including children and young people with SEND. It is essential that you have strong communication and relationship building skills to work with families needing additional support. You will be able to complete appropriate assessments and plans with families.
What you need to know
This role is hybrid, with a mixture of working at our council offices, schools, family homes and from home. Please note that due to the nature of this role, it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained. You will be expected to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area so you must have a full, valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or have an alternative means of travel.
Interviews will be held on 18th and 19th March 2026.
