About the Role: Family Solicitor
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Family Solicitor to join our busy and growing Family Law Practice in Gloucestershire, with a special focus on public law care proceedings.
This rewarding opportunity involves handling complex and sensitive children law matters, including representing parents, children, and local authorities in care proceedings. You’ll play a key role in:
- Protecting the rights of vulnerable clients
- Ensuring the best possible outcomes for children and families

You will manage your own caseload, collaborating with colleagues, counsel, local authorities, and CAFCASS, while also developing your advocacy skills in the Family Court.
The role demands strong case management and leadership skills, along with a keen interest in business development.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and progress a caseload of public law children matters (especially care proceedings) from instruction through to final hearings.
- Represent clients at all stages, including case management hearings, interim applications, and contested final hearings.
- Provide clear, empathetic, and robust legal advice on child protection law, including:
- Local authority intervention
- Children Act 1989 threshold issues
- Prepare and draft precisely persuasive legal documentation, such as:
- Statements
- Position statements
- Court bundles
- Conduct advocacy in the Family Court and work closely with:
- Counsel
- CAFCASS
- Local authorities
- Other professionals
- Ensure full compliance with:
- Legal Aid Agency (LAA) requirements
- Regulatory standards
- Best practice in client care and file management
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience (PQE) in a Family Law department.
- Experience and knowledge of Legal Aid systems, particularly Care Proceedings—Private Divorce/Finance experience would be advantageous.
- Experience in supervising juniors or a willingness to supervise team members.
- Working knowledge of:
- Data management systems
- Full Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to:
- Think adaptably and communicate professionally
- Handle sensitive matters with empathy and courtesy
- Panel membership is a plus.
