About the Role
Whitbread is seeking a F&B Sourcing & Sustainability Manager to serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in animal welfare, sustainability and global supply-chain strategies. The role involves:
- Advising on animal welfare standards, balancing brand integrity, commercial viability, and sector expectations.
- Leading sustainability and supply-chain strategies for Food & Beverage (F&B) to ensure resilience, responsibility, and alignment with company targets.
- Engaging with key industry partners, including NGOs, research groups, and investors, to drive progress in animal welfare and environmental sustainability.
- Representing Whitbread in external stakeholder engagements, including investor relations and responses to regulatory queries.
Key Focus Areas
The role encompasses strategic oversight of priority commodity sectors, including:
- Dairy, poultry & eggs
- Meat
- Fresh produce
- Palm and soy
The technical lead ensures policy alignment with emerging regulations and trends, with a proactive horizon-scanning approach to supply chain risks and animal welfare standards.
Responsibilities
Strategic Policy & Compliance
- Develop, refine, and track animal welfare and sustainability policies, ensuring suppliers meet performance outcomes and industry standards.
- Monitor supplier adherence to commitments, reducing guest complaints and safeguarding brand reputation.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration to improve supply chain integrity, streamline**, and address waste in a commercially sustainable way.

Stakeholder & NGO Engagement
- Represent Whitbread in industry panels, working groups, and investor meetings, fostering positive partnerships with NGOs, research bodies, and commercial partners.
- Lead FFG-related engagement (e.g., reporting, investor queries) and articulate corporate commitments on animal welfare.
Supply Chain Risk Mitigation
- Identify potential hazards (disease outbreaks, regulatory changes, commodities risks) and develop resilient, ethical supply networks to sustain commercial operations.
- Ensure long-term availability of production categories while maintaining ethical sourcing.
Sustainability & Measurement
- Strengthen welfare KPIs and reporting structures to align with BBFAW and corporate benchmarks.
- Collect data and implement performance metrics to achieve FFG targets.

Essential Criteria
Qualifications & Experience
- A degree (or equivalent experience) in agri-food science, supply chain, sustainability, or a related discipline.
- Subject matter expertise in agriculture and detailed knowledge of F&B supply chains.
- Proven track record in sourcing/sustainability, preferably in hospitality, food retail, or production.
- Experience engaging with industry stakeholders (initiatives, investor panels, NGO collaboration).
- Commercial acumen to balance sustainability goals with net profitability.
Technical & Strategic Knowledge
- Deep understanding of food security risks (pests, regulations, supply disruptions) in protein/novelty categories.
- Ability to identify trends in waste reduction, emissions, and sustainable sourcing.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Proven experience driving cross-functional projects linking agriculture, technical, and procurement teams.
- Strong connections with MD-level supplier decision-makers.
- Stakeholder diplomacy—balancing expectations among internal, external, and third-party partners.
