F&B Sourcing & Sustainability Manager
Salary range: Up to £72,055
Contract Type: Permanent
Location: Office-based 3 days a week (Dunstable, LU5)
This role serves as Whitbread’s subject matter expert on:
- Animal Welfare Policy development
- Outcome measures and reporting
- BBFAW compliance requirements
- Stakeholder engagement
Key responsibilities include advising on animal welfare standards while balancing brand proposition, commercial realities and sector expectations. The role will:
- Lead sustainability and supply-chain strategies for Food & Beverage (F&B), ensuring resilience, responsibility, and alignment with FFG sustainability targets
- Manage relationships with industry partners, researchers, investors and NGOs
- Support the Investor Relations team by leading FFG and sustainability reporting, including investor engagement and stakeholder representation
Core Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Benchmarking
- Work closely with suppliers and producers to align their practices with customer expectations and environmental standards
- Lead the technical direction for key F&B challenges, including dairy, poultry, eggs, meat, fresh produce, palm oil and soy
- Conduct horizon-scanning to identify emerging risks (regulatory, disease, supply chain disruptions)
- Ensure policies remain up-to-date and aligned with evolving regulations

Responsibilities
Policy & Compliance
- Develop, refine and track sustainability/animal welfare policies ensuring alignment with global standards
Supplier Engagement
- Ensure supplier compliance with welfare, commodity and sustainability commitments
- Improve guest experience, reduce complaints and safeguard brand reputation
Investor & NGO Relations
- Represent Whitbread at industry panels, investor meetings and working groups
- Lead BBFAW reporting, KPI management and stakeholder engagement
Sustainability Risk Management
- Build resilient, ethical supply chains addressing food security issues
- Mitigate risks from disease outbreak, regulatory changes or fluctuating commodity demands

Essential Criteria
- A degree (or equivalent experience) in Agri-Food or a related discipline
- Subject matter expertise in UK agriculture and UK food supply chain governance
- Proven track record in F&B supply chain sourcing and sustainability (preferably retail/hospitality)
- Experience representing a business at external industry panels and Investor Relations engagements
- Strong knowledge of food security risks (disease, regulatory challenges, supply constraints)
- Examples of cross-functional project working (collaboration with procurement + agriculture teams)
- Ability to identify emissions reduction, environmental and waste reduction opportunities commercially
Desirable
- Experience in broad F&B supply chain portfolio (dairy, poultry, grain, etc.)
- Familiarity with marketing sustainability requirements (green claims, consumer trends)
