FCAW Welder – Long-Term Opportunity
Location: South West / North Devon Employment Type: Long-term PAYE opportunity Industry: Marine, Defence and Heavy Engineering
Pay Structure
- Hourly rate: £24.88 per hour (PAYE)
- Overtime: £37.32 per hour (after 40 hours per week)
- Nights: £33.09 per hour
- Weekly allowance: £400 travel and lodge allowance
Estimated Gross Weekly Earnings
- 45 hours (days): £1,581.80
- 67 hours (days): £2,402.84
- 45 hours (nights): £1,910.22
- 67 hours (nights): £2,731.26
About the Role
We are seeking experienced FCAW welders for long-term engineering work in the South West.
This long-term PAYE opportunity aligns with welders who have experience in:
- Marine
- Defence
- Dockyard
- Fabrication
- Shipbuilding
- Ship repair
- Heavy engineering

This work suits candidates comfortable with large-scale engineering projects where quality, safety, and consistency are paramount.
Key Responsibilities
- FCAW welding on heavy engineering and fabrication work
- Working from engineering drawings, weld maps, and specifications
- Welding structural steel, plate, and fabricated components
- Preparing, setting up, and inspecting work before welding
- Carrying out welds to required quality standards
- Adhering to safety procedures and permit requirements
- Supporting wider fabrication and production teams as needed

Experience & Requirements
- Strong FCAW (flux-core arc welding) experience required
- Background in marine, defence, fabrication, shipbuilding, or heavy engineering
- Ability to read engineering drawings and weld procedures
- Confidence in producing consistent, high-quality welds
- Coded welding experience is beneficial
- Must be willing to pass weld tests if required
