What You Will Be Doing
As a Dyfed-Powys Police FCC Operator, you will be the first point of contact for the public in emergencies, with responsibilities including:
- Answering and prioritising both 999 (emergency) and 101 (non-emergency) calls, ensuring timely and effective deployments of police resources.
- Dealing with all customer contact (telephone, digital) – collecting, appraising, and resolving information to determine appropriate actions.
- Using STORM (System for Tasking and Operational Resource Management) to record and update call details accurately.
- Supporting frontline operational demands through effective triage and deployment of police resources.
- Responding to digital channels (social media, emails) to ensure crisis and non-emergency responses are handled efficiently.
- Providing advice, signposting, and guidance to customers, including liaising with other agencies for non-police-related matters.
- Making critical decisions that affect life-and-death situations when required.

During the first 12 weeks, you’ll receive dedicated classroom training. Afterward, you’ll work alongside a mentor to build skills until competent in handling calls independently.

For FCC Operator roles, you do not need to list qualifications at the application stage.
Applications Process – 3 Stages
- Online Assessment (week commencing 27/07/2026).
- Work-Based Assessment at Police Headquarters, Carmarthen (week commencing 17/08/2026).
- In-Force Interview at Police Headquarters, Carmarthen (week commencing 07/09/2026).
Welsh Language Support
- The initial assessment is completed in English.
- Later stages (assessment/interview) can be held in Welsh.
