Emergency Gas Responder
Orpington | Eltham | Deptford | Southwark | Woolwich | Greenwich | Blackheath
Start date: October 2026
Base salary: £39.1k per annum (increase to £43.4k upon successful completion of probationary period)
Once qualified, your earning potential increases with additionally paid standby & overtime.

How you’ll support us on our mission to keep people safe and warm…
- Working independently in homes, businesses and outside to identify gas leaks and keep people safe
- Engaging with customers across our network, speaking to them with confidence and knowledge, active listening and understanding their service issues
- Resolving customer situations for a 10/10 customer service experience every time
- Using your ever-growing knowledge of gas services to problem solve complex situations and make situations safe for people, property and the environment
- Attending assigned gas escapes within a regulated deadline to ensure our service is robust, effective and customer-focused
- Ensuring your van is well-maintained and equipped, carrying the equipment, tools and PPE required to achieve results and keep yourself safe
- Being part of essential works to keep gas supply running to millions of people all year around and at any time day or night - standby and overtime opportunities apply for irregular hours

You will need…
- A friendly and approachable attitude with excellent customer service skills, as you will be dealing with members of the public
- A current ACS qualification, CCN1 or CESPI, and ideally MET1 to 4 (although this is not essential to apply for the role)
- You thrive in an environment involving public interaction, adapting to situations and remaining calm during situations
- You are curious, always wanting to learn and develop your skills. You seek knowledge from others and like to push and challenge yourself.
- You are flexible with working as part of a team rota that covers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This means out of hours and weekend working is standard. This is managed through a transparent rota and additional compensation is paid
- A full and valid UK manual driving licence is essential
