The candidate will be responsible for analysing and determining the structural integrity and safety of various mechanical systems, components, and materials. They will use analytical and computational tools to assess the performance and behaviour of the system or component when subjected to different loads and environmental conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Stress analysis, fatigue and damage tolerance analysis and finite element analysis of mechanical systems or components.
  • Design and development of structures, products or equipment that comply with industry standards and regulations, while minimizing risk and optimizing performance and reliability.
  • Identification and analysis of potential failure modes and recommendation of design improvements.
  • Manipulation of data using coding languages, spreadsheet programs and other software to perform assessments and identify alternative approaches.
  • Researching materials and components to identify the best options for designs requiring high levels of stress.
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, quality, and testing teams.
  • Communication of results and findings via technical reports, presentations, and other means.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of structural mechanics, materials science, and numerical methods.
  • Experience with CAD software, such as SolidWorks, CATIA, or Pro/ENGINEER, and FEA tools, such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or Nastran.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with an ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact with stakeholders in different departments and levels of the organization.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of fatigue and fracture mechanics, composite materials and structures, optimisation and design for manufacturing.
  • Experience with programming languages or scripting tools, such as MATLAB, Python, or VB.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, with a focus on continuous learning and improvement.
