The Role

Tatler is looking for a Features Director to lead its Features desk into the next phase of Tatler’s success.

The Features Director will work closely with the Editor-in-chief to create and commission agenda-setting content and scoops to a world-class standard. They will oversee Tatler’s talented Features desk, and ensure that the team’s talent is leveraged efficiently across all of Tatler’s platforms, including print, digital, and social. The successful candidate must have a creative flair for new content and a strong understanding of Tatler’s heritage, modern world, cast of characters, and direction. They will thrive on producing high-quality editorial in a fast-paced environment, and work closely with Tatler’s Digital Director to ensure that there is also a strong pipeline of digital-first features being commissioned as well as maintaining Tatler’s print excellence.

What will you be doing?

  • Commission agenda-setting stories for both print and digital
  • Be obsessive about culture, current affairs, and the Tatler scene
  • Edit, proofread, and work with sub-editors to come up with witty headlines and standfirsts
  • Work closely with the wider team to deliver punchy and must-read coverlines
  • Establish strong relationships with key industry contacts
  • Lead Features meetings, manage the team’s daily content output, oversee the features budget, and ensure deadlines are met
  • Identify and pursue landing Tatler-unique cover talent when non-celebrity is required
  • Contribute creative ideas on how to cover key events across different digital platforms, including social and video
  • Use their strong network of writers and journalists to deliver top-quality pieces and scoops for Tatler
  • Take a keen interest in mentoring the Features team
  • Undertake any other duties as reasonably required

About You

  • The ability to deliver edited copy to a high standard within tight deadlines
  • A good knowledge of the Tatler world and who’s who
  • Excellent writing and copy-editing skills, with a sharp eye for detail
  • A nose for news: an ideas generator, eager to uncover original stories and angles that work across all of Tatler’s platforms
  • Exhaustive knowledge of high society, fashion, film, lifestyle, and arts and culture
  • Extensive experience as a senior editor within an established global media business or working on a national title, with experience running a features team
  • Excellent people-management, delegation, and communication skills
  • Great planning and organizational skills
  • A brilliant contacts book of writers and journalists to commission for features
  • Impeccable discipline with keeping to, and enforcing, deadlines
