On the 1 August 2026, the University of Greenwich and the University of Kent will form a pioneering new multi-university group called London and South- East (LASE) University Group.

Based within the School of Engineering at the University of Greenwich, this role forms part of a transformation as we realign our academic portfolio to focus on Digital Engineering, with a particular emphasis on Applied AI in Engineering, Robotics and Automation, and Digital Engineering. The School operates across two campuses—Greenwich in London and Medway in Kent—with this post primarily based at the Medway campus, contributing to the delivery and development of our Digital Engineering and Innovation Portfolio, including programmes such as Applied AI for Engineering, Robotics and Automation, Computer Engineering, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
The successful candidate will play a strategic leadership role in shaping the future direction of Digital Engineering research, innovation and research-informed education within the School of Engineering. This post will support the School’s broader strategic aims and help ensure that our programmes meet the requirements of PSRBs, with particular value placed on accreditation and alignment with institutions such as the IET.
We are seeking an internationally recognised and research-active academic leader with a strong track record of leading research groups, centres, interdisciplinary collaborations and externally funded programmes in Digital Engineering, Robotics, Automation and Applied AI. You will bring sector-informed insight, academic leadership, and pedagogical expertise that enhance the student learning experience and support the advancement of our curriculum. A key aspect of this role will be the ability to inspire and lead high-performing research teams, secure major external research and innovation funding, supervise doctoral researchers, and build internationally recognised research capability.

Depending on experience and expertise, there may be opportunities for the successful candidate to undertake wider academic leadership responsibilities, including positions such as Deputy Head of School, Associate Head of School, Director of Research or Portfolio Leadership roles.
The role holder will contribute strategically to the University’s ambitions in the Research Excellence Framework (REF), Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), and Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF), as well as a strong commitment to enhancing student satisfaction and experience. A PhD or equivalent professional experience in a related area is essential. Proven experience in higher education teaching and curriculum development, a track record of research or professional innovation, success in securing research grants, and a clear understanding of PSRB expectations are essential. Possessing a relevant PSRB membership would be a significant advantage.
The School is investing in the development of internationally recognised research and innovation activity across Digital Engineering, Applied AI, Robotics, Intelligent Systems and Industry 4.0 technologies. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape interdisciplinary research agendas, contribute to research centre development, supervise postgraduate researchers, and establish strategic partnerships with industry and international collaborators.
