Pharmacy Technician Opportunities – Furness General Hospital
The Pharmacy Department at Furness General Hospital is seeking enthusiastic, well-motivated individuals to join a dynamic team on a full-time or part-time basis.
Role Overview
This role will involve key operational tasks within the Pharmacy main dispensary and on hospital wards. Responsibilities include:
- Ordering and dispensing medications for:
- In-patients
- Service users preparing for discharge from hospital
- Collaborative working as part of a team and independently
Working Arrangements
- Core hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:30
- Weekend and Bank Holiday shifts will form part of the rotation
- Part-time arrangements will be considered if full days are worked
Key Requirements for Band 3 Grade
To qualify for the Band 3 grade positioning, candidates must meet the following essential criteria:
- Previous pharmacy experience in a related setting
- NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or a comparable dispensing qualification (recognised by the profession)
- Competent IT skills
- Education standards including:
- UCAS Tariff Level 2 (GCSE level or equivalent) in English and Maths

Support for Aspiring Pharmacy Technicians
An apprenticeship/training progression route is available for candidates without the NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services:
- Ideally suited for Band 2 positions
- Specific support will be provided to complete the NVQ 2 qualification
- With completion, the successful candidate can progress to Band 3 grade
Training
Full training will be provided for the successful applicant(s).
