The Role
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Field Adjuster to lend technical expertise and drive consistently fair, customer-focused claims outcomes. In this position, you will:
- Partner closely with contractors, suppliers, surveyors, and policyholders
- Conduct on-site inspections and comprehensive property damage assessments
- Claim progression and resolution aligned with regulatory standards and company governance
- Actively support decision-making and claims adjustment pertaining to subsidence, building pathology, and contents claims
You’ll further extend your practical skills by:
- Reviewing contractor estimates and surveyor reports
- Using Xactware and other specialised systems
- Producing detailed technical reports
- Ensuring customer transparency in claim processes and outcomes
Ideal candidates draw balance between technical authority and outstanding customer-facing skills, delivering quality solutions while maintaining high standards of customer interactions, clarity, and respect.
Key Responsibilities
Assessment & Technical Work
- Evaluate buildings and contents insurance claims for validity, damage extent, and appropriate settlements
- Conduct comprehensive site inspections, including property visits and hands-on damage inspection
- Review surveyor reports, contractor quotes, and customer invoices using industry software like Xactware
- Validate contents loss lists, accounting for depreciation, wear and tear, and policy terms
- Assess subsidence claims and review expert reports to determine appropriate remediation
- Produce scope of works reports within delegated authority limits

Client Interaction and Stakeholder Liaison
- Provide clear explanations to policyholders on claim decisions, settlements, and policy limitations
- Coordinate efficiently with contractors, surveyors, and our approved Supplier Network for timely resolution
- Support high-level decision-making through conflict resolution, handling adjustments, or facilitating compensation reviews when needed
Audit, Compliance, and Policy
- Identify fraud indicators and escalate concerns appropriately
- Audit surveyor and contractor quality, ensuring consistency and minimising claim leakage
- Ensure all adjustments adhere to FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) regulations and internal governance policies
- Provide technical support for Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) complaints, ensuring thorough evidence-based reporting

- Demonstrate personal development milestones, enhancing technical expertise and contributing to team best practices
Key Requirements
Candidates must possess the following essential qualifications and experience:
Technical Competency
- 3+ years of loss adjusting experience, with a proven track record in buildings and contents insurance claims
- Progressively sophisticated understanding of policy wordings and their application
- Expertise in building pathology and repairs, including reinstatement intermediation
- Strong proficiency in using digital estimating tools, specifically Xactware

Certification & Accreditation
- CILA (Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters) or CII (Chartered Insurance Institute) qualification is mandatory
Personal and Practical Skills
- Proficiency in loss-adjustment communication, balancing technical detail with accessibility
- High-stakes analytical and organisational skills, with meticulous attention to detail and adherence to deadlines
- Field discipline, adaptability, and resilience to manage on-site or remote claims management
- Capacity to handle challenging or sensitive customer situations without compromising professionalism or service standards
