🔧 Field Engineer – Outside IR35 (Glasgow & Scotland)
Contract | On-Site | 24/7 Assurance | Critical Utilities Infrastructure
Genesis Technology Services Limited is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Field Engineer to join our client, delivering excellence across our client’s network.
The Role
You will be at the forefront of provide and assure activities for our client. This is not a desk job—you’ll be out in the field, installing, commissioning, maintaining, and troubleshooting mission-critical IP and telecoms equipment in substations and remote sites across Scotland.
This role requires 24/7/365 1st-line assurance coverage, so you must be ready to respond when it matters most.

- Installing and commissioning DC chargers, PDH, SDH, Comtel, Microwave radio, and IP networking equipment.
- Erecting EMC cabinets, power racks, and installing containment (cable tray, trunking).
- Terminating and wiring SWA, CAT5, and multi-pair copper cables.
- Configuring Cisco & Alcatel switches/routers and IP telephony systems.
- Testing protection services (VF, X21, C37.94) and bearers (PDH, SDH, IP LAN/WAN).
- Performing routine maintenance on battery chargers, fibre optics, pilot cables, and radio systems.
- Conducting site surveys, risk assessments, and producing detailed handover documentation.
- Providing 1st-line support and troubleshooting across IP and telecoms infrastructure.

What We’re Looking For:
Essential Experience:
- Proven track record in telecoms field engineering—specifically with DC chargers, PDH, SDH, Comtel, and Microwave radio.
- Strong knowledge of Cisco & Alcatel routing and switching products.
- LAN/WAN internetworking skills and IP networking (WAN, LAN, MPLS).
- Experience working in high-voltage substation environments (11kV to 400kV).
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Authorisations (training can be provided for some):
- SPEN Authorisations (WI-2, EN-1, WL-1.5, 1.8, SB-2)
- National Grid Authorised
- NRSWA / EUSR / IOSH
- Emergency First Aid at Work
- DC/AC Competency Certificate
