Field Engineer, Telecoms & Networking
Location: Central Belt, Scotland (Field-Based) Contract Type: Freelance (Outside IR35) Rate: £300–£340 per day Must-Haves:
- Full UK Driver’s License
About the Role
Bright Purple are recruiting an experienced Field Engineer for a critical telecoms and networking support role covering the Central Belt of Scotland. This is a hands-on, field-based contract where you’ll work across strategic telecoms networks, performing:
- Installation & commissioning
- Maintenance & first-line fault-finding
- Documentation & stakeholder communication
- 24/7 operational support (8-hour shifts, 5-day weeks, with on-call availability when needed)
Your duties will include supporting telecoms and network infrastructure projects, ensuring seamless operation in key utility environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and commission telecoms hardware and networking equipment
- Diagnose and resolve faults in live networks
- Maintain rigorous documentation (logs, reports, technical specs)
- Deliver daily stakeholder updates where required
- Carry out routine and reactive maintenance on telecom infrastructure
- Operate within an 8-hour workday (5 days/week), though support is on-call for urgent issues

Essential Requirements
Technical Skills & Knowledge
☑ Field engineering experience in telecoms, networks, or utilities environments (hands-on preferred) ☑ Strong background in installation and commissioning of network infrastructure ☑ Routing & switching expertise (LAN, WAN, MPLS experience) ☑ Experience with:
- SDH, PDH, or microwave radio systems
- Cisco or Alcatel products (familiarity at least)
Soft Skills & Requirements
☑ Excellent documentation and communication (technical reports, verbal updates) ☑ Commitment to fieldwork across Central Scotland
Desirable Skills & Experience (Not mandatory, but advantageous for competition)
- Certifications:
- NRSWA (streetscape electrical works</div>*)
- EUSR (Electrotechnical Certification Scheme)
- IOSH (Working safely)
- Emergency First Aid qualification
- Electrical Competencies:
- AC & DC systems experience
- Exposure to high-voltage substations
