Field Engineer (Telecom Fibre Engineer)

Project Engineer / Field Engineer

Location: Glasgow Flexibility: Travel across Scotland, occasional overnight stays

About the Role

As a technical Project Engineer, you will play a key part in ensuring the successful delivery of projects and the upkeep of Scotland’s telecoms network. This role encompasses:

  • Strategic planning and project delivery, including installation and commissioning across varying scale and complexity
  • Technical representation at customer meetings and support during critical fault resolution
  • Completion of high-quality project documentation post-job

Collaboration is central to this position, working closely with field teams, project managers, and network operations to meet targets and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

** sectores of Accountability** (max 5)

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including customer network handovers
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain routers, switches, and firewalls
  • Conduct site surveys to facilitate installation planning and execution
  • Install and commission rack, charger, and telecoms equipment to expert standards
  • Develop Health & Safety documentation, including Risk Assessments (RAMS) and POWRA (Positive Workslide Risk Assessment)

Core Requirements

Technical Expertise (max 5)

  • Proven experience in network and system maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting
  • Strong CCNA-level knowledge of IP networking, spanning WAN, LAN, and MPLS
  • Hands-on experience with Nokia SAR-H and NFM-P platforms
  • Mastery of routing, switching, and data networking principles
  • Familiarity with XTran technology
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Visio for network and technical diagramming

Experience

  • Full UK driving licence (Guitar license issued)
  • Ability to commit to travel and occasional overnight stays across Scotland
